See DROPS lesson: How to measure your tension/gauge As long as you achieve the same knitting tension you can replace one yarn with another. The knitting tension also determines which yarns can replace each other. If you work with a different knitting tension than provided you will have a different yarn consumption, and your work will have different measurements than what the pattern suggests. You adjust the knitting tension with the needle size, which is why the suggested needle size only serve as a guide! You need to adjust this (up or down) to ensure that YOUR knitting tension matches the knitting tension provided in the pattern. The knitting tension is very individual some people knit/crochet loosely while others work tightly. It is provided like so: number of stitches in width x number of rows in height - eg: 19 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm. Knitting tension is what determines the final measurements of your work, and is usually measured per 10 x 10 cm. Diagramġ) Why is the knitting/crochet tension so important? The slipper is folded double and sewn neatly together in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch from point 1, via point 2 to point 3. 22-24 cm (measured in knitting direction). Cut the strand and pull it through the last stitch. Next row: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted together stitches. Knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 2 together. Continue with garter stitch and decrease 1 stitch (knit 2 stitches together) on each side of the piece every 2nd row a total of 12-14-15 times = 5-4-4 stitches. From here the piece is worked in 2 parts (= 29-32-34 stitches on each part). Work 29-32-34 stitches, slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased), work the remaining 28-31-33 stitches. 12-13-14 cm (measured in the knitting direction). Work and increase1 stitch (by working 2 stitches in 1 stitch) on each side of the piece every 2nd row a total of 20-22-23 times = 59-65-69 stitches – REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the increases are finished, the piece measures approx. The whole of the slipper is worked in GARTER STITCH and STRIPES – read descriptions above.Ĭast on 19-21-23 stitches with needle size 5 mm and deep red. The slipper is sewn together from mid front of foot, under the foot and to mid back of heel to finish. The piece is worked back and forth from the toe to back of heel. Work 6-7-8 cm with deep red, then * 1 ridge with cerise, 1 ridge with deep red *, work from *-* to finished length.
